Why Data Beats Emotion in Investing: Sean Tepper

Sean Tepper, Founder and CEO of Tykr, shares how he turned a personal stock-picking spreadsheet into a global investing platform, why confidence matters more than complexity, and how data, transparency, and process are changing the way investors make decisions.

ABOUT SEAN

Sean Tepper is a technology builder, process engineer, and investor focused on making stock analysis easier to understand and act on.

After spending years in tech and process-driven roles at companies including GE and Kohler, Sean began questioning the way most people pick stocks. Instead of relying on headlines, gut instinct, or overly complex models, he built an Excel-based system inspired by Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, and Phil Town to evaluate companies using consistent financial data. That personal tool eventually became Tykr.

As Founder and CEO of Tykr, Sean has grown the platform into a global investing tool used by roughly 13,000 retail investors across 50 countries. His approach centers on simplicity, transparency, and confidence, using a traffic-light rating system, open-source calculations, and tightly controlled AI tools to help investors better understand the businesses behind the stocks they own. His goal is not to tell people what to buy, but to give them a clearer, more disciplined way to make their own decisions.
